From 1838 to 2014, Tipperary was divided into two counties (or 'ridings') – North Tipperary and South Tipperary. The county towns were Nenagh and Clonmel respectively. In 2014 the two counties were merged into one. Clonmel was made the county town; Nenagh is now the second largest town in County Tipperary.
